  • Horizontal bearings
    Michell Bearings has two ranges of horizontal bearings; the industrial horizontal (IH) series and the heavy duty (HD) series covering a range of shaft diameters....

  • The industrial horizontal (IH) series is a modular range covering shaft diameters from 280mm (11 inches) to 1000mm (40 inches). 

    The heavy duty (HD) series is specifically designed for applications involving high thrust loads and covers a shaft range from 300mm (12 inches) to 500mm (20 inches).

  • Vertical bearings
    Michell Bearings vertical bearings (AV, LV and V series) have been designed and developed as fully self-contained, general purpose, modular assemblies to meet customer’s requirements....

  • For special applications and where the preference is for the bearing internals to be positioned within the casing of the machine, we can offer bespoke bearing solutions equivalent to our standard vertical ranges and beyond, including special self-contained bearing designs.

  • Tilting pad bearings
    We have several ranges of Babbitt and PTFE tilting pad bearing internals for both thrust and radial journal applications. We have completed a number of bearing conversions from Babbitt to PTFE in North America, with an extensive reference list in Canada....

  • Our bespoke tilting bad bearings can be designed to suit individual project requirements, with either babbitt or PTFE lined thrust and journal bearing components.

    The PTFE material can operate safely at minimal oil film thicknesses, allowing approximately twice the specific load capacity normally associated with babbitt. Today PTFE is often specified as a first choice for hydro-applications and has been shown to have clear advantages for small pad applications in more standardised reversing pump applications.

    In 2019, Michell Bearings was commissioned to convert a set of problematic babbitt thrust pads to PTFE at the Norris Dam in Tennessee. The PTFE material provides a greater safety factor when compared with the babbitt solution and will increase the life of the bearing to provide greater reliability.
