  • COMTRADE Utility
The COMTRADE Utility turns your OSIsoft PI System into an enterprise-level disturbance file management system that integrates COMTRADE data from your IEDs with PI data to provide "One True View" of power system events....

  • SISCO's COMTRADE Utility works with the OSIsoft PI System to provide powerful analysis and display tools for processing device disturbance files supporting the IEEE C37.111 COMTRADE and PQDIF formats. The COMTRADE Utility turns PI into a powerful disturbance analysis system and file archive that simplifies and manages the storage of disturbance data, events and files. The COMTRADE Utility retrieves device files automatically then historizes the COMTRADE data by extracting the individual measurements from the files and associating the data and event to the underlying power system asset using PI AF and PI Event Frames for display and analysis using standard PI tools like PI Vision, ProcessBook and Excel using DataLink. PI tags can be automatically generated if desired. The complete COMTRADE file can be stored in the PI archive in its entirety as an annotation enabling the original file to be restored for audit purposes or off-line analysis outside of PI.

By integrating disturbance data with SCADA and other PI data, the COMTRADE Utility enables utilities to get “One True View” of how power system disturbances and events affect their systems for advanced application and analytics for:

    • Condition based maintenance
    • Asset health management
    • Fault cause and effect analysis
    • Disturbance file archive for post-event forensics and audits

    FEATURES

    • Enables PI with disturbance, waveform, transient, and other sub-cycle data stored in IEEE COMTRADE files supporting the C37.111 and PQDIF formats
    • Connects disturbance data to the underlying power system assets using PI AF and PI Event Frames
    • Simplifies and centralizes the management of disturbance records by storing the original COMTRADE data in the PI archive along with the real-time tag data resulting in structured time-based access to all disturbance data for faster response to audits and faster access to your critical disturbance data
    • Extracts the individual data elements from the COMTRADE file and historizes the data by entering the data into the PI archive enabling display and analysis of the COMTRADE data within the PI environment
    • Can be configured to automatically create PI tags when historizing COMTRADE files
    • Can automatically retrieve, store, and historize COMTRADE files directly from devices using either FTP or IEC 61850 without manual intervention
    • Can invoke PI Notifications when files are processed to support fast response to power system faults
Can export any data from the PI System into a COMTRADE file for information exchange with other systems
  • CIM Adapter for PI AF
CIM Adapter Enables Rapid Deployment of PI AF to capture the value of asset information by enabling multiple views of data through AF. CIM Adapter uses the CIM to configure AF and PI Tags within the context of familiar models....

  • The SISCO CIM Adapter for the OSIsoft PI System combines the power of the world’s leading real-time historian, PI, with the power system modeling capabilities of the IEC 61970 and IEC 61968 Common Information Model (CIM). The SISCO CIM Adapter for the OSIsoft PI System will import XML based data model definitions into the PI Analysis Framework (AF) so that access to data within the PI System can be done within the context of the data model eliminating the need for applications to be pre-programmed with tag names. The result is reusable applications that can access data in the context of a central system model and discover the data they need without having to be pre-programmed with knowledge of all the available data.

    BENEFIT

Instead of spending time and effort managing and maintaining tag names independently of the data models used for analytics and display, the CIM Adapter enables the modeling and tag management functions to be automated based on the power system modeling that is already being performed for EMS, ADMS, and other operational applications. By leveraging the capabilities of the CIM methodology using profiles, the CIM Adapter can support multiple unified models so that each business function can utilize a data model optimized for its own use without duplicating the underlying data or creating incompatible models for each application.

    FEATURES

    • Works with customer-defined models, models derived from other applications, or industry standard models such as CIM, IEC61970 (for EMS), IEC61968 (for DMS), IEC 61850, ISA, OpenFMB, etc.
    • Imports model information and network connectivity information into PI AF using CIM-XML files
    • Can auto-create PI tag names based upon the model definitions to provide powerful tag name management capabilities
    • Enables the use of an enterprise semantic model based on your power system model to be used for developing applications without tag name dependencies
Simplifies management of tag naming changes by supporting an incremental change process that updates tag names without manual configuration
  • Unified Analytic Platform for C-RAS
The Unified Analytic Platform (UAP) provides a high-performance environment for the development, debug, and enhancement of analytic applications to support centralized remedial action (C-RAS) and other wide-area protection and control applications....

  • Given the challenges of building new transmission lines, it is critical that utilities maximize the utilization of their existing assets without jeopardizing reliability. Implementing reliable and fast mitigation schemes can enable a significant reduction in reserve margins while maintaining or even increasing reliability in some cases.

Traditional distributed remedial action schemes (RAS) that rely on complex device programming that interacts in real-time across multiple substations can be difficult to develop, test, and maintain. This increases the cost and slows more widespread usage of wide area RAS. Centralized RAS can lower the cost by providing a higher-level development environment with better simulation, testing, and management capabilities. This enables more rapid and widespread implementation of RAS that can save utilities millions of dollars compared to other methods of RAS or adding capacity in existing transmission corridors.

    BENEFITS

    • Lower the reserve margin for critical lines through more effective mitigation strategies
    • Implement multiple complex multi-line contingency-based RAS to prevent cascade failures
    • Lower deployment costs by eliminating complex logic from distributed remote substations via centralized RAS processing using modern programming languages
    • Lower testing costs using simulation tools that support complex event emulation coupled with powerful analysis and debugging capabilities
    • Enables continuous improvement of RAS algorithms using fault playback for testing and validating changes by comparing new algorithm performance to past events
    • Easily integrated with existing system operations through standardized ICCP-TASE.2 and/or CIM based web service interfaces
    • Leverages IEC 61850 GOOSE messaging and modern networking for maximum performance enabling wide-area protection of critical assets
