  • Both CFD and physical flow modeling are effective tools for understanding the flow, combustion, or particulate control in power plant components. ASC has worked to solve problems in the areas of performance, maintenance, and compliance.

    Power plant component studies typically involve internal flow. Plume dispersion, or external flow, is also frequently characterized for stacks. For wet stacks, the added complexity of droplet impingement, liquid collection systems, drains, condensation, and evaporation is also analyzed. In the wet stack examples shown, droplet tracking is important to understand where the droplets will hit the walls and how many will escape. The CFD model results show the streamlines of droplet trajectories, along with the zones (in black) where droplets will collect on the walls. The scale physical model was used to examine flow patterns and maximize droplet impingement on the walls. Model results confirm the efficiency of liquid collection devices such as gutters, baffles, and drains.
