Doug Sanders currently serves as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for Cardenas Markets, one of the largest Hispanic grocery chains in the country.
A proven leader in the grocery retail space, Doug’s extensive food industry career began 36 years ago as a Courtesy Clerk at Brookshire Brothers in Texas. He progressed through a broad range of store operations and information technology roles before joining Sprouts Farmers Markets upon its founding in 2002.
At Sprouts, he served in positions of increasing responsibility, including the role of President & Chief Operating Officer from 2005 to 2012, Chief Executive Officer from 2012 to 2015 then Executive Chairman in 2016. Doug led Sprouts through a period of rapid growth and a successful initial public offering.
Following an accomplished career at Sprouts, Doug was asked to join the board of Cardenas Markets in 2018. He became Chairman in 2019 and was named Chief Executive Officer in 2020. Doug’s extensive food industry experience and IT background have been instrumental to the company’s current and future success.
Today, Cardenas Markets is a $1 billion-plus company with 59 locations across California, Nevada and Arizona, and is poised for continued growth.
Doug attended Stephen F. Austin State University. He also serves on the board of directors for the Cardenas Markets Foundation.
