Skylar Thompson, a graduate of Texas Christian University with a B.B.A. in Finance, began his tenure with Market Basket in stocking and sacking groceries while still in grade school. Since that time, he has progressed through every department in the store and has held numerous positions while in school and upon graduation. These include Store Manager, Division Manager, Executive Vice President and is currently President and CEO.
A person involved in the industry, Sky is a Past President of the Texas Food Industry Association. He is a past recipient of the Spirit of Texas and Spirit of America Awards for his involvement in community and governmental affairs. He has held directorships and offices in numerous community organizations including the American Cancer Society, Muscular Dystrophy Association and The Southeast Texas Food Bank. In addition, Skylar serves on various committees of Trinity United Methodist Church and is the current Chair of The South east Texas American Red Cross.
Market Basket operates 30 conventional supermarkets that employ over 2000 associates. 15 stores are located in Southeast Texas and 15 are located in Southwest Louisiana. Most of the stores have Bakeries, Delis, Smoke Houses, Floral departments and several have Pharmacies.
