  • IEC-61850 is the specific standard for smart substations and defines the Ethernet protocol to be used for data communication and defines how devices in the substation communicate with each other.  IEC-61850-3 devices need to meet electromagnetic interference (EMI), temperature, and shock/vibration resistance requirements.

    Advantech’s IEC-61850-3 certified ECU-4784 with an Intel® Core Haswell i7 CPU with Intel AMT, an independent design of the operating system, enables the unit to be monitored and managed regardless of whether it’s switched on or if the operating system has frozen.

    To aid in building substation systems, the ECU-4784 features dual expansion slots which can be used to significantly increase the number of COM, LAN, I/O ports.  Other value added features include iCDManager (Intelligent Connectivity Diagnosis Manager), TPC (Trusted Platform Module), AMT (Active Management Technology) and VT-D (Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O). 

    ICDManager checks the system communication status and can quantitatively measure the status.  It helps enhance maintenance efficiency and ensures the system operates smoothly.

    TPM is an integrated motherboard chip and provides basic security-related functions, primarily involving encryption keys.  Its purpose is to check the system integrity and authenticate third-party users who would like to access the security features.  Therefore, the privacy and confidentiality is assured.

    The Intel CPU supports Intel VT-D functionality by using the VT-D hardware assistance built into Intel’s chipsets.  The VT-D provides the necessary isolation to assure separation between each virtual machine’s computer resources.

    All Advantech’s ECU-4000 series are IEC-61850-3 compliant and feature a robust fanless design, isolated COM and LAN ports, redundancy power, and LAN teaming.

  • Advantech’s IIoT iAutomation Group is pleased to announce the ADAM-3600 Intelligent RTU that utilizes Advantech’s TagLink technology, a modular wireless expansion system.

    TagLink is a new embedded technology which allows engineers to assign real meaning to the data they manage and makes it easier to maintain.  It frees users from the hard work of processing the raw data and provides a unified interface for different protocol servers which enable engineers to use C programming, Softlogic, WebAccess, SCADA, or RESTful/HTML to communicate directly with third party devices.  It also supports data interlock to prevent conflicting access from different applications.  These features ensure that the data from the ADAM-3600 can be accessed from the IoT cloud.

    The ADAM-3600 with two Ethernet ports and three serial ports (one RS-485/422 and two RS-485) has been designed with modularity and space saving in mind.  It doesn’t require extra space to add additional I/O, wireless, GPRS devices within small cabinets.  This modular approach enables engineers to quickly and easily change the functionality of the ADAM-3600 without the need to buy expensive whole units or be concerned about space issues.

    The ADAM-3600 has several features to help it withstand the rigors of the weather.  It has been designed with industrial grade components and has a wide temperature range between -40°C to 70°C as well as meets the requirements of Class I, Division 2 UL certification.

    The ADAM-3600 is ideal for any remote in-hospitable regions where many devices need to be managed remotely.
