Standards are Meaningless (without Interoperability)
Thursday, March 02, 2017: 1:45 PM - 2:15 PM
Smart lighting must apply the lessons of past connected technology markets as it strives to go mainstream. And one of those is that standards without interoperability are worthless for people deploying the technology. With interoperability, there is no “almost”. Products either are interoperable or they aren’t.
We will discuss the fallacy of a single vendor being able to “own” a lighting control network, the near guaranteed acceleration of the controls market when interoperability is embraced (using examples from previous connected markets), and the kinds of steps users and vendors should demand in order to achieve interoperability.
The result will be clear proof points and actions that our industry should be doing and how we should be cooperating to make the benefits of smart lighting available to everyone.
